Aspects of Carnival

This section introduces the themes of song, dance, and masking that carnival embodies.

Carnival goes hand in hand with the idea of rebellion as Carnival is a celebration that works to remember the resilience of ancestors who found means of challenging and opposing enslavement. Every major aspect of Carnival (song, music, masking, and rituals) depicts opposition and refusal to unlearn one’s own cultural practices.
