Narrative of Hercules

Abstract/Description
Hercules's narrative appears on page cxli on the Introduction to Hans Sloane's A Voyage To the Islands Madera, Barbados, Nieves, S Christophers and Jamaica. Hercules, who is locally famous for his healing practices, is met with skepticism from Sloane. Although Sloane mentions the efficacy of some natural remedies used by doctors such as Hercules, he argues that black and Indian doctors are ineffective and lacking in knowledge.
